BILSTEIN shocks Heavy Duty VS Comfort 1972 250c
I need new shocks and I understand that BILSTEIN is the way to go. my question is, should I get the Heavy Duty or the Comfort? Is there much difference in the two? They will be going on a 72 250c. It is a solid family car used for sunny drives. I hope to keep this car for decades to come so I want to make the right choice.

Comforts are direct replacements. Heavy duty is a good shock, but the ride is firmer. If you want better handling, heavy duty can help. If you want the best ride, get comfort.

Depends on what you want. Do you corner at above average speeds? It doesn't sound like it but if so then get HD's. I put them on my W123 and they ride good and corner a lot better than the old stock shocks with almost 200K on them.
If you just usually cruise around and drive like a normal person comforts will be the best for your application.

Either way, both are lifetime guaranteed.
On the coupe I'd also consider weight and ballance of the automobile. It's not exactly a w123 vintage square-back wagon that carries 5 passengers most of the time, is it? And it's far cry from the huge Adenauer limousine too. I think that stiffening the suspension on the nimble coupe is something you will regret - unless you constantly hotrod the car and regularly take it into 4 wheel slides around corners on dirt roads. |

I put the HD's on the front of my w123 wagon and now the frontend is a couple of inches higher than before?

Make Sure You Keep Your Boots On
I put new Bilsteins on all four corners of my W123 two-plus years ago. One of the front ones lost its seal in April.
As usual, operator error was to blame. When I bought the four dampeners off eBay, I really did not pay much attention to what I was getting. They were genuine Blisteins, and the right model for the car, however, the new front pair did not come with rubber boots. When I put them on, I failed to move the protective boots off my old shocks to the new one. Three winters of road grit did the one shock's shaft seal in. I've just installed a fresh pair with boots and all seems well. To do this job yourself, make sure you have a 12-point 10mm socket for the front flange bolts. Lastly, make sure you un-fasten the top nuts before taking weight off the wheels. Good luck. Alex
