UnwiredTools ACCII Controller

I wanted to chime in here as the vendor of the ACCII Upgrade kit (the electronic version as discussed in this thread). While we enthusiastically support our customers as they purchase and install our upgrade kit, we DO NOT authorize the selling of the kit on ebay: new, used or otherwise.

If a vendor is claiming to sell our kits on ebay, they are not an authorized distributor and the units will not be warrantied or supported. We have worked very hard at establishing quality distribution for our products. If you want the latest version of our kit, I would suggest you speak with Phil here @ Fastlane.

If you have any questions on our kit, I would encourage you to contact us directly @ 928.773.0469 x 802

thank you.

Leaks vs Unwired Kit

Frank, although I don't YET need it for my 78 280CE [still have one more spare amp, working servo, and many spare vacuum switches and solenoids from my 280E parts cars, and system is performing nicely...(knock on bakelite)] -

I have downloaded your .pdf installation manual to consider the eventual purchase, and want to compliment you on it - a very nice piece of work, superbly illustrated, with excellent diagrams! Should be installable by any moderately-competent shade-tree mechanic.

Question - when one buys a current UT kit being offered for sale by you-all, does one automatically get all the "upgrades" to date, or does one have to piece it together bit by bit?

And, TO 450SEL -

When I got my 280CE, several of the smaller hoses had been replaced with SAE heater hoses attached with cheap US-style clamps - and since some of them are supposed to be tapered, especially as one goes from SAE to metric fittings in this bowlderized system, several oozed green, despite the former owner's having applied 3000 fp of torque to the clamps...
So check clamps, but try to not OVERtorque them - and if appropriate, replace hoses with factory-spec ones. Also, Mercedes stocks a newer type hose clamp with a pressed/non-perforated thread on the band and nice nut-driver screw head - buy a bag of them and replace them as needed...they're slim, smooth, strong, and don't cut the rubber.

P.S. It is rumored that Rube Goldberg himself committed suicide after troubleshooting an ACC-II system

Thanks for the feedback on the materials we provide - a lot of effort has gone into them, and if poor ole Rube had had the simplified vacuum diagrams, perhaps it would have gone better for him

We are now selling our Revision I kit through Fastlane, which is our latest revision and in all likelihood the "final version". Rev H kits are functionally equivalent but with a slightly different footprint. Both H and I have excellent, modern car quality temperature regulation as they both bypass the car's sensor chain, except of course the temp wheel. This means a simplified installation which does not require calibration or excessive work tracking down marginal grounds, etc. We've had excellent feedback on the kits to date and have enjoyed an increase in demand lately.

Based on our experience with the ACCII kit and working with installers and customers alike, we have introduced a couple of new AC/Heat related products, one of which is ideal for ACCII era vehicles and one for the later 140 and 210 chassis vehicles. One thing that we often hear is "now that my heat/ac works again, I wish I could get more air out of the blower." That inquiry resulted in the UTBoost product. http://unwiredtools.com/utboost.html

The UTBoost Regulator for 140 and 210 chasis are replacements for the OEM blower regulators that are prone to overheating and they also add the UTBoost functionality, providing substantially increased air flow from the blower.

Best of luck with your collection of spare servos, amps, etc. We'll be here when you're ready.

thanks for your support and please excuse the plug on the other products.

ACC-II Factory Troubleshooting Procedures

Frank-
Thanks. Dunno how often folks find that their thumbwheel is badly off, but you might consider including a calibration (via indicated dial temp vs resistance) procedure - I found that I was able to hold the shaft with a small straightedge screwdriver whilst adjusting the dial against it (while you're at the wire, anyway) - didn't need the notched-prong self-made tool...

All youse other guys-

With respect to troubleshooting using the factory procedures - I finally adopted the philosophy best applied while doing your own federal taxes, particularly Capital Gains...Don't THINK about it...just follow the line-by-line instructions, in the order given...
I commend that approach to all who attempt this - but, hey, whaddaya want out of a pneumatic/electrical/hydraulic mechanism with 12 vacuum lines, 12 electrical leads, four coolant lines, and innumerable vacuum and electrical switches and bellows...something that could be done with four rotary dials and a couple of levers?????

UT ACCII Kit

good feedback, thanks. We're working on getting an adjustment tool for just such purposes. We do provide in our manual some of these resistance values, but adding a calibration procedure is a good idea.

Calibration

Great. Should only take a couple of lines of text in step 6., a modified shot of the front of the panel showing the tool and a thumb in place, and a cheap piece of stamped flat metal...or, if you wanted to put it earlier, just have 'em take readings across 9 and 10 in the test connector, at 75, 65, and 85 deg F, just before they splice into the gry/grn in step 5.

(this pin 9-10 reading worked great to conclusively isolate source of a new resistance loop "open" when some dummy, after extracting a broken peabulb partially jamming the rotation from INSIDE the thumbwheel (which took removing pushbutton unit and unplugging its electrical connector) forgot to reconnect plug before reinstalling the panel...)

Wunner who dat wuz...

[I considered picking up the whole car, tipping it to left, and shaking the bulb bits out of the thumbwheel, but taking the unit out of the console seemed a little easier...]

ACCII Upgrade Kit Documentation Update

Ok, our manual is now updated to include this thumbwheel calibration/adjustment procedure!

http://www.unwiredtools.com/accii.html

You will find a manual link on the left hand side of the page. There is a link for the most recent manual, followed by prior versions of the manual. At the moment the "most recent" and the Rev I manual are one and the same.

Regards

Frank
