Anyone know what this is ?
Hi All,
I'm sorting out an idle issue I have and just wondered if anyone could tell me what the sensor is next to the idle speed screw. It's not the water temperature sensor and it seems to be connected to the fuel line as well as the air valve. Is it maybe a solenoid rather than a sensor that sprays fuel into the air valve during startup or something ? If so is it easy to test ? Thanks, Gary |

If this is on a w111 or w108 model its the cold start. The coldstart is easy to test, its the entire unit thats difficult. Basically the cold start pushes a rod that opens a fuel line on warm up. Its simply a pos and neg wire. The shut off for the fuel is a bit tricky to test. You accurately test it you must remove the enitire unit and measure the fuel flow over a set period of time. The only reason to be concerned is if fuel mileage is high or car hesiates when cold

That's indeed the cold start valve. I see in your profile you have a 4.5 engine with DJet
Unless you can see fuel dripping from it when the engine is running (a bad idea to try to test this I would imagine), then you shouldn't worry about it. If it starts cold fine, and you don't have an idle that's way too rich, then you're fine.
