W115 Euro Headlights on ebay

These are mine. If anyone here is keenly interested, PM me- I could withdraw the listing before getting any bids.

dave -- I do not visit ebay much anymore after seeing many exploitive descriptions. Really nice to see all the realistic detail you provided. I have a 108 (With euros), otherwise, I'd buy 'em.

You would have to do some re-wiring. The basic hi-beam / lo-beam is the same- uses the same bulb. From there it's completely different. The turn signals and park lights are two separate bulbs on the Euro's, and the fog lights (if you have the outboard ones US style) are built right into the headlights. These old Euro headlights are very much similar to the lights on our newest US cars.

The reflectors that have rusted and pitted have to be replaced. The resilvering process for the one that is mearly flaking is just about as expensive as buying a new one, if you can find a shop that will do it. Spray paint is not an option, as the surface must be very reflective.

I just purchased replacement reflectors for my 108/111 euro lights from Caliber Motors. The complete set of 6 reflectors set me back 200$US. The results are incredible. The sealed beam US headlights are crud in comparison. Having the real thing on the car looks much nicer too.

I haven't priced the W114 reflectors. I don't know if they are available from outside the dealer network. Knowing the bosch part number would help. Any leads on reflectors would be a good thing.

Lastly, I was always curious about how to identify LHD vs RHD lenses. My friends in Australia tell me to look for that "V" on the lens (seen clearly in your photos). The open end of the "V" points to the driver's side of the car. In this case, they are LHD lenses.

Yeah- good clear pictures eh?
I rember getting a large antique mirror re-silvered for my mother several years ago for around $50, so I didn't think re-silvering would be too big a price. Your question has prompted me to get an estimate on re-silvering today. There is a shop about a half hour from me that does it. I'll post an update tonight. (Also going to enquire about surface treatment like POR15 Metal Prep. That stuff converts rust to a nice zinc oxide that also smooths the pitting quite nicely- my question would be if the silver can be applied over the zinc).

If the wiring is similar to the Euros I installed on my '60 Fintail, the W114/115 lights should be 'plug and play'. While the bulb configurations may be different, the multi-pin male connectors on the headlamp frames should come wired accordingly. My Euro's headlamp bulbs plugged right in to my Fintail's original 3-wire sealed-beam plug and my original multi-pin harness plugged in and operated all the other lights in the Euros correctly, plus adding built-in foglamps.
Perhaps the only hitch I can see, is not having the extra terminal on the Euros to connect to the harness for the optional, external fender-mounted, USA foglamps, if your W114/115 is so equipped.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Latest story on re-silvering- the shop that did the mirror for me years ago no longer does this work, for environmental reasons mainly. The city would no longer allow them to use the hazardous materials involved, or it was not economically feasible for them to handle it properly. The shop owner suggested i try getting them chrome plated somewhere. Anyway, this could certainly be a big issue for potential buyers.

Need opinions- should I pull the ad just to save myself the grief of probably having to take them back as per my 30 day guarantee, because buyer would probably not be able to find or afford re-silvering?

I could try and source new reflectors, as you suggested I suppose.

I'd remove that guarentee language. Some fool will take it too far. I asked Rusty about good suppliers for the reflectors. Apparently Bosch won't sell them in the US. However, somebody that knows a Bosch supplier overseas can probably get them. I suspect that going outside the Benz dealer network and importing them would be cheaper than benz. But, somebody out there has to make some inquiries.

PS. If you succeed, contact the US part suppliers like this site and Rusty to see if they can cut a deal with you.
