need some help from a 230/250/280SL owner
I've got a 280SL here that just had a new top put on it. the car came to us with the springs for the top just sitting in the back seat. It's easy to see where the springs attach to the body but it's not clear how they attach to the frame of the cloth top. This is at each back corner, under the cover. If anyone has the time to snap a pic for me that would be very much appreciated.
I think something broke or someone did something really messed up or it would be obvious how it goes back together. |

In the back corners of the top , you will see the pivot bolts. The bottom of that piece has a 2" leg with a hole for the springs [ one on each side ]
You will see that this tab is broken off .. very common on 113 chassis .. look around in the boot for the tabs/legs [ they are chrome] and if you find them , they can be mig welded back on . Looks like a small piece of angle iron. You will see the break line if you look close at the rib that the bolts go through. Just below the bolt holes. |
