Can JB weld fix my rear view mirrow?
The rear view mirrow dropped to the floor of my fin. I think she's mad she's going into storage soon.
The mirror is connected to the arm that juts down from the roof by a 5mm screw. The screw passes through a spring that maintains tension on the connection preventing wobbly mirror syndrome. It seems that the Stuttgart boys over engineered the force of the spring. After 42 years, the threads that were cut into the connecting arm gave up. The 5mm screw took the threads from the arm with it. Now, I don't think I can tap the hole since the diameter of the arm hole is wider. I thought maybe drilling out a rod, tapping it, then having someone lathe it to fit into the arm hole connection. Then JB welding it into place. Can anyone suggest another alternative? I know there are far more brilliant engineers on this board than myself. Buying another mirror assembly would be the easy route.
