Resealing power steering gear on 108
After spending a fair amount of time under my car replacing the radiator, I've come to the conclusion that it's probably the p/s gear that needs to be resealed, not the pump. I see that Fastlane sells a reseal kit that contains no fewer than 29 assorted o-rings, gaskets, seals, washers, and clips.
Has anyone done this job before? Is it as much of a nightmare as the number of parts makes it seem? How difficult is it to pull the Pitman arm? Does it make sense to replace the whole shebang (drag link and tie rods) while I've got that stuff apart? |

I know you can rent the pitman arm puller from Autozone for free. As far as your other question goes about experience, I can't help you there. Sorry.
Thanks David

I replaced the input and output shaft seals on my box but I would not recommend you go much further. If you pull out the worm gear all the recirculating balls will come free which can't be replaced without special tools.

I've done 2 of them.....under supervision. They are a challenge and a half.
