Boy
If I could only pay that for a brand new old stock 220D. Somewhere in the world there is a brand new old stock W115 if you should come across one I will gladly pay the full sticker price LOL

Yes, 1971 would have been a good year to buy a Mercedes. Within a few years, dollar devaluation made many German products prohibitively expensive in the US. Things got so bad that in 1976 the US-market German Opel was replaced with a Japanese version. By then, the cheapest Mercedes was around $10,000 and had grown heavier due to the massive 5 MPH bumpers, while gas versions became emasculated by emissions regulations and lowered compression to accommodate regular unleaded gas. At least the diesel versions didn't yet suffer from emissions regulation and actually increased in engine size and horsepower during those years.

what I am looking for
I have a 1976 240D 4 speed with a great body and origanal paint. The interior is shot though. I have already acquired the fog lights, steering wheel, Becker cassette radio and power antenna from a w114 S class. I want wing windows since there is no AC. It would be too good to be true but if I could gut older W114 doors so I end up with wing windows, I would be overjoyed. I will probably have to change the door entirely with one equipped with wing windows but whatever it takes the bloody car is getting wing windows. I was wondering what interior upgrades are available on a W114 that would work in my W115. I have to replace the dash so I hope to use a 280s dash with the wood trim wood glove box ECT. Any other ideas of what luxury items from the w114 S class will fit a 1976 240D W115. Think 240DS with out the crappy power windows.

I have a sticker for a 1967 230SL. Cost: $7,811 total.
Not many options really. No A/C, no sunroof in the hardtop, nothing except the hardtop fitted with softop and power steering.

There is no W114 S-class that I'm aware of. A 280S is either a W108 or W116 and wood trim from one of those won't work in a 240D. As for adding vent windows, doors from a '68 through 73 W114 or W115 sedan should work. If you decide to swap the entire door, keep in mind that your '76 240D doors should have an important safety feature, side-impact beams, which the older sedans won't have, except for possibly the '73 models. Thank you
Mark DiSilvestro Thank you for the great tip that is exactly the information I was looking for you have no doubt saved me countless hours of trial and error getting the dash installed. This car will never be complete but when I get the dash and wood installed, I will post some pictures. This is my for fun tinker with car so it will be interesting to see what it looks like in a year.

In April 1966, the base 230SL roadster was $6185. By March 1971, the equivalent 280SL roadster was $7469. Keep in mind these are base prices, not including (exept where noted) hardtop, power steering, radio, floor mats, shipping/delivery charges, dealer prep and any other charges that dealers typically tack on. Out the door you could easily add $1000 or more. In early '68, the cheapest Mercedes was the W115 200 at $4360. Not exactly dirt-cheap but about what a nice Olds or Buick cost back then. By October 1975, the equivalent 230 (with automatic) had pushed past the $10,000 mark, to $10,497! In August 1973, I got my first Mercedes, a '61 Ponton 180b, for $200. (Price in 1961 was $3250) I remember visiting the local Mercedes dealer for parts, and looking at the new models in the showroom. As I recall, At that time the cheapest 240D was around $10,000. By the early '80s, the 240D had topped $20,000! Happy Motoring Mark
