Fine fall motoring in the 111

Took the 3.5 coupe over to North Carolina last night with some friends. Still warm enough to have the sunroof open and enjoy the leaves on the way there. Here’s us at the Daniel Boone Inn restaurant in Boone, NC. Big car, but pretty cozy for 4 adults.

This was the first ‘cruise’ length trip I have taken, and I noticed a couple of things; Slight vibration when loaded with 4 adults. Noticed a much stronger vibration before replacing the compensator. Thought it was the flex disk, but the spring fixed it… until you load the suspension. Any theories?

Can’t seem to get any heat. Cold air on every setting. Haven’t checked yet to see if the core has been bypassed over the years.

Mild clunking sound when transitioning from turning one direction to another, especially under braking. Steering is otherwise tight.

Loving the car.

Wow, looks nice you had a great run.

Could you give more info about the vibration. Is it coming from the rear? Make sure the tires are in good shape before attacking the suspension. Easiest thing to do is to rotate the tires front to back and see if that changes anything. Does the back end sag under load? If the rear axle deflects alot under load then the vibration could be the univeral joint inside the rear axle.

The noise you are hearing could be when turning could be the subframe mounts failing or the lower suspension arm bolts loose. The heat issue most likely is stuck heater core valves. They can be accessed from inside the car. When the valves stick usally the control wires break so moving the levers has no effect.
