Best way to clean carpet in the ol gal

OK, yes I am thinking ahead , but these carpets need cleaned. I dont want to trash them by using some process that others have learned from. They look like they are in great shape, but they are dirty AND 34 years old
Suggestions welcome

Without spending a fortune? Just purchace some carpet shampoo from the grocery store, put it in a spray bottle, get a nylon bristle brush. Spray, scrub - spray, scrub. Use a wet vac to extract the excess soloution. Old Fashion yes, but effective and inexspensive. You can pay close attention to detail making sure you are not damaging the old fibers.

Another thing. You might TRY using a pressure washer on them after you have them soaped up good. That really did the trick on our 300D. Unfortunately, it also destroyed a small piece that was a little weak, so be careful with the pressure if you try this.

For the ones that come out of the car. Use Oxi clean and really flood them with the water/oxi clean solution. Lay them flat and allow them to dry over a couple of days.
For the permanently installed carpets, I like Tuff Stuff. Go to any auto store and you should find it. Works very well. The oxi clean is just cheaper for the ones you can remove.

Carpet refurb

I removed the carpets from my car. I used a product called resolve. Spray on foam. Then after it was dry I got some Dye (rit dye) filled up a spray bottle w/hot solution and sprayed it on. Carpets look like new....

Great Way to clean carpet

I just got a 1984 300SD and the interior was filthy. I removed every single interior piece, seats, carpets, etc... that can be removed. I have access to a hot water pressure washer at work. So I brought all the carpet in and soaked it down with that citrus orange cleaner/degreaser and let it soak for a short time. Then I pressure washed it with 140 degree F water. They came out looking like brand new. When I started the guys at work thought the carpet was absolutly raunchy, but now they can't believe it's the same carpet. Not everyone has a hot pressure washer, but some car washes heat the water so that may be an option.
Good luck.
