Sticking Accelerator

My W123 280E has a sticking accelerator pedal. I've check, cleaned and lube'd all linkage joints from the fuel metering unit back to the firewall. By disconnecting segments of the linkage and testing in various areas, it appears that the sticking point is not in the engine bay, but above the pedal itself. The pedal is connected to a lever that disappears behind the center console. Even with a flashlight, it is tough to see where the upper part of the lever is catching.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of problem?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Alex
