WTB: W108 with good body but bad engine

Hey all,

I'm looking for a W108 (any variant) with a good, solid body but a bad engine for a top secret project. HIGHLY CLASSIFIED!!

Anyone out there have our mule?

Will trade a running '75 300D for the 108 donor.

Oh man! How "good" does the body have to be? I just picked up a 280S that in my opinion is not too far gone- no holes in body panels whatsoever, and some deterioration underneath, but hasn't gone soft yet.

I would rather have a second W115 300D if you're serious about trading.

Dave,

I would be very interested in swapping my W115 for your W108. Problem though: I see you're in Canada, where exactly in Canada? Windsor would be rather ideal, Vancouver, not.

What color combo is the 108?

East coast, near the boarder of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Pretty much driving to Bangor Maine, then 5 hours further.

The car is white with brown interior. Come to think of it, the interior is pretty far gone as you can see in these photos- I would guess you would want to get better than this. Also, I don't have the title transfer- previous owner had lost it. I intend to sell parts, but willing to hold off awhile if someone really wants the whole car.

W108 Lovers- $750.00

Aaron, there are inexpensive W108's out here in CA that come onto the market that are hard to move. I haven't inspected any since I am not in the market for any more thirsy gassers at the moment but I will keep my eyes open for one or if you see one in the SoCal area I can inspect it for you. How much are you looking to spend? How "good and solid" does the car need to be for your highly classified project... hmmm.....scramjet propulsion?

I wish I had the money to do something "Highly classified" like put a m119 into a 108.

That's my guess.

Ok guys,

Here is the rundown of what the car "needs" to be.......

-Must be a floor shift car (early "8-ball" style preferable)
-Body needs to be rust free, bad paint is ok, we have a paint shop
-Chrome preferably should be nice
-Interior preferably good to very good

** While we can repaint any car, I would prefer a dark color exterior such as maroon, dark green, midnight blue, black, etc...unless silver comes along, I'll take silver. No body damage if possible, I would rather strip, prep and paint instead of weld and fill, etc..

I am willing to pay $2,500 max for the donor, as I do not need the engine or rest of the driveline for that matter. Hehe, Tomguy, you're darn close on your guess as to what we're doing

Hi Aaron,

see attached link.. I don't know if these are still there but unfortunately I never made it up to check them out. I'm half-way between the SF Bay and Sacramento and come across them on almost a daily basis when I'm out and about on my sales calls. Let me know if you want me to go take a look at these cars, they're about 45 minutes from my house.

Bradley,

Thanks for the link. Those do look tempting however the problem lies in transporting the car from California to Ohio which would be pricey, especially for a non-runner. Unless of course I could nab one of those for $500 or less, then it would be worth it. So I guess I would tell you that if you've got some time, go check them out and let me know if any of them (especially the burgundy one) meets my criteria.

I bought my car on Ebay, and had it shipped from Houston to California for $725.

I almost bought a '99 CL500 that was in Memphis, and the quote was about $900 to haul from Memphis to my garage in So. Cal.

I'd suspect you could buy a car for $1,500 or less, and with shipping, would still be within your $2,500 budget.

There are a ton of clean, rust-free cars in So. Cal. if you search on classiccartraderonline.com

I'd be happy to look at any cars that you have interest in, if they are within an hour's drive from the house.

Aaron,

Was going to PM you, but your box is full.
Looked at the 108 (280SE) today. Looks good. minor rust, mostly in wheel well. No rust in the trunk where the drain tubes are. Interior is dark blue and in good shape. Exterior is a medium blue. No sunroof. All the wood is shot, except the dash might be saved. Unlike my '71, this one has wood along the windshield pillars and above the windshield.
It has the spring, and not the compensator.
Engine has been removed and is being used in an SL. I have dibs on the fuel pump and the trans. and maybe the radiator and p/s pump (and whatever else you really don't need for your project).

Car can be had for a song and dance (and I don't dance all that well anymore).

Let me know if you are interested.

I noticed that the climate controls have aluminum discs instead of the plastic ones i was expecting to find. Is this unusual? One thing that was unusual about them for sure, was that they worked! (smoothly at that).

-Larry
