Tires For A 76 Sl

Hello, I have a 1976 450 SL and yes I want to keep the orginal tire size (205/70/14) not an upgrade.

Best high speed tire I can find is Firstone Affinity LH-30. I looked at the Michelin Harmony but that is only an S speed rated tire.

Any input would be appreciated

Thank You

JOB

And those are bundt-cake rims, correct?

No matter what tires you choose, ballancing em on *both* sides can make a difference.

BF Goodrich Traction T/A. You may have to drop to 195, but it won't matter. The tires have outstanding bite for an all-season, both wet and dry. Cornering is quite impressive. There are some good touring tires out there, but this is the best H-rated performance all-season tire for your car, IMO. Upgrade to a 15-inch wheel and you can get them V rated.

Search the archives for testimonials, and view the ratings on the Tire Rack site. This is the tire you want.

Bridgestone, Pirelli and Continental all have excellent tires in the correct size. Check the TireRack site for comparison shopping and excellent prices.

I afree. I have BF's on mine right now and I love them. They're wearing quickly on the front due to the camber AND alignment being off, but they weren't uber-expensive (About 2/3 the price of Michelins!) so I'm not complaining. I have them in 205/70R15's. The traction of these is amazing, even in the snow.

If your local Sears can find a set, consider the Michelin Weatherwise Sport for about $62 each. They have a T speed rating, and I don't think you'll find better in this size. I got a set and I'm happy, especially at the price. No serious vibration issues. I think they're being discontinued, and they're only sold at Sears. My local store was able to pick some up from a store in another city.

Oh, and they look "right" on a Mercedes.
