1977 300D Speedometer Cable Removal at Tranny end

1977 300D Speedometer Cable Removal at Tranny end

I checked the archives with min results. I am trying to remove the speedo cable at the tranny off take or gear house. Loosened 10mm clamp bolt. Cable will not pull out. I do not want to pull on it real hard. Last time I did this the cable end just came out. Exiting cable end spins around 180 degrees or so but will just not pull out readily

Is there a chance it is seased? There is another 10mm bolt holding the housing to the tranny.

Please advise as to how to remove without damaging the housing the cable is slid into.

The Haynes manual says to unscrew the bolt and pull the cable out. I did this several years ago on my 280C, which has the same arrangement, and it just came out. I think I removed the bolt completely.

Yeah, you've gotta pull the collar bolt out completely. The cable end is concave and wont slide past the bolt.

Just curious. Why are you removing the cable?

odometer and speedometer went dead on

Autozen asked "Just curious. Why are you removing the cable?"

The odometer and speedometer went dead on me. As I did 60,000 miles or so ago, I ordered a new cable ($50 &^%$ smackers) and sent my speedometer and odometer out to Overseas Speedometer. The speedo is fine, so I assumed cable is bad. Cables should last over 100K miles. Maybe an anomoly. Since I suffer from CRS (can't remember Sh__) I forgot you have to completely remove the bolt. I must have done that last time I changed her out.

Luckly as I wait to make repairs, I have a spare instrument cluster which except for the speedo works good. I had just picked up spare from a bone yard
