1975 250C coupe

Hi
I want to buy a 1975 280 coupe, and plan on a PPI and getting compression test done, I know the valves have to be set properly in order for the CT to be accurate. I'm wondering, Is there anything I should especially be looking for or that will likely be missed in the PPI, that I should specifically request to be thoroughly looked at. Unfortunately the car is 2 states away from me so I don't know the shop who will do the inspection, nor for that matter have I ever had a vintage Mercedes Benz. I am going to examine the car myself to have a good poke around & get the car up on the lift ... but you can't beat advice from someone whose been through this before.
This is not an impulse buy I've been looking for a while, its just that this 280 is the right color combo, and appears on the surface like the one. Its around 5k. (Personally I believe the 280C is an undervalued design classic, especially once the heavy rubber US bumpers are changed to the European spec ones).
This is strictly a weekend car for me as opposed to a daily driver
Any thoughts or advice much appreciated
cheers.

As I understand it, what can cause problems on this model are:
- head lubrication problems, might need an updated head
- warped carbs from over tightening
- the ignition should be replaced with a Petronix or similar

These items were supposedly dealt with by my previous owner.

and don't forget rust. Lots of issues with rust. Look for it in the floors, the rockers, the firewall. -CTH

Be sure to pull up the trunk mat and look for rust there.

Bonus points if the rear end doesn't whine/howl. Drive the car on the freeway and check at accel, decel, and various steady speeds.

Try to do a test drive with the engine cold from sitting overnight. Cold warm-up is where any carb problems will be evident.

Really sweat the owner about oil usage to determine if you have to do the head.

Look very carefully under the carpets for any sign of water leakage. If the glue betwen the carpet and the backing is separating, that is a bad sign.

Be sure the driver's window works smoothly. Expensive and hard to fix right.

Don't pay very much. We love these cars, but not many others do.
