Valve Adjustment
Hi All,
I'm about to re-try adjusting my valve gaps again as last time there were two that I couldnt adjust and they have become noisy. They are the intake and exhaust on Cylinder 4. When I put the "proper" wrench on one it is obstructed by the gearbox dipstick tube, can I simply undo the top bolt on this holding it to the engine and ease it away from the block without doing any damage ? The second valve nut has been rounded off by some previous owner and there isnt enough grip to move it. Is it an easy job to replace the whole pivot adjustment or is there another trick I can use to turn the nut ? Thanks for any help, Gary |

You can remove the rocker and put a socket on it then put the rocker back on to check it. You have to guess how much to turn it, and you may have to do this several times, which is a pain.
If you are going to take the rocker off, you might as well replace the ball stud. I did have some luck with a crowfoot wrench on some of mine that were badly rounded.

Thanks
Thanks Chuck,
I'll give that a go, it's always nice to have a theoretical game plan before starting in on these things. I did have several attempts with the crowfoot wrench but its just too badly rounded off to get enough torque and the fact that it's right in front of the driver's (RHD) bulk head makes the tapping noise annoying if nothing else. Cheers, Gary |
