thoughts on 1967 250s

I have been benzless for close to a year now. Was browsing the local classifieds and came across a 1967 250s with a four speed manual on the steering column. Very little rust, needs muffler. I owned a four speed 1967 230 about 30 years ago and loved it. Have also owned numerous 70s and 80s benzes. What are your thoughts on this one? This would be a project car and not a daily driver for me.

Looks like fun ...

Just don't pay very much for it, and recognize that you will probably get back a nickel for every dollar that you spend on it.

asking price is $450

I figure it is a better bet than one with an automatic, although I believe the shifter on the floor is a better arrangement.

If the rust is minimal and it runs, go for it.
A friend who owned one of these with a stick-shift once told me "These cars feel 500 pounds lighter with a stick-shift!"
Column-shifts are so retro. Amaze your friends who will assume it's an automatic. Even a manual on the column is more fun than the automatic.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Like Chuck said, don't pay too much for it. I got my '67 250S for free - the body is solid, the interior's good and it runs well enough. The PO just wanted to get rid of it because it was sitting in the garage and hadn't run in years. I put about 175 hours into it last year and about $700 in parts. If I had to guess it's only worth about $3500 - assuming you can find someone interested in a quirky, 40 year old car that gets lousy gas mileage and requires premium!
But if you like doing it - go for it!
Good Luck!
Dennis

$450? go for it! find a cheap muffler shop and drive it. when the warm weather hits some college kid will pay you for that car if you don't want it any more
