Parts books and fiches (discs?)
Does anyone know of likely sources for old parts books (with numbers, not the glove box pics-only mini versions)
OR old microfiches covering, but not necessarily restricted to, any or all of the following: 59 300d Adenauer and early 189 engines 63-66 111.021 & 112.021 coupes; 129.980 and 189.987 engines 6x-7x 108.018 sedans; 130.980 engines 68-75 114.010 sedans and 114.023 coupes; 114.920; 130.920, 921, 923; and 110.921 engines 77-xx 123.053 and .033 coupes and sedans, later M110 CIS engines and possibly 240D (?616? - I don't do diesels...) Would also appreciate any "heads up" via PM or email if you see any offered for sale. Thanks, Stan Braisted Achilles, Va (804)642-6494 Last edited by Tristar1959; 02-21-2006 at 12:00 PM. |

The fiche doesn't cover the M189 or M186 motors or the 230SL or the ponton era cars. Those are strictly by the book.
As it happens I just found a 300se (112) sedan book on ebay for 100$ today. The same seller has the M130V book for sale. That one however, is replaced by a single sheet of fiche. Also, there's a fellow named sphere360 selling books at an outrageous markup from what he bought them for 2 months ago (he outbid me, so I know what he paid for them). Your best bet, honestly (and this comes from somebody that can cheerfully sell you any of the fiche as I have spares), is to buy a bootleg copy of the EPC. There are a few hundred copies of it for sale on ebay any given week. The sellers, may they all rust, post them with dozens of different car models. But it's really all the same software. Though watch out for the US and Euro versions of it. The US copy doesn't come with trucks & busses and fits on two CDs. The Euro copy has all sorts of fun things and takes up 8 CDs. -CTH |

markups
Ouch! Well, anyone who's still caring for and feeding an airbagger probably doesn't even get a twinge at $100 for a parts book. As for the Adenauer, well...
In defense of sphere360, I've had prior dealings with him for quite a few pubs, and he was pretty fair and resolved one oddball issue entirely correctly...but I gather that buying and selling pubs is his thing...so... Please expand on the "EPC" vs fiches...I'm not familiar with the latest in technology, except when I get to watch my poor friends down at the local Dodge-MB dealership gnash their teeth, jump up and down, etc whilst attempting to communicate with New Jersey... the epc is the parts software that the dealers use. It is a 100% uptodate version of the fiche with all the latest part numbers. It also does a handy cross-reference that lets you see all the cars the use a specific part.
For all the cars after someplace in the early 80s, a chassis number will get you the datacard info along with all the correct options. that feature's rather nice. -cth |
