Fuse box diagram for 72' 250C

Hi, i just bought a very nice 1972 250C. I want to change out the old corroded fuses for new ones. Under the fuse box lid it tells you what the fuses are for but not the correct amperage. The owners manual is of no help either. I just want to make sure that I am putting the correct fuse in the correct slot as I cant be 100% sure the old owner did. Does anybody have the correct information on this.

Cheers.

In a related question: Does #1 fuse start at the firewall or start counting from the front??

Fuse box

Look for a symbol or shape key on your paper insert - the fuses themselves are amp-coded to match, but this symbology didn't appear in many 114/115 models. My MB 114/115 Service Manual's list, as well as its coupe-inclusive wiring diagram, shows all twelve as being 8 amp except #2, which is 25 amp.
UNLESS -

If A-C equipped, #6 will be a 16 amp.
If fogs run off #12, may be a 16 amp.

# 2 could be a 16 on a very few models, but most use a 25 - either should adequately protect against dead shorts; if yours has a 16 and full loads don't blow the 16, fine - if they do, try the 25.
My Haynes shows #6 (stop light, heater blower) as a 25, but possibly only for a 280SL with start solenoid AND A/C.

The radio has a cute little mini inline (2amp) usually behind the radio.
Others which may be undercover in supplementary fuse boxes are used for rear window heater, electric windows (diagonal pairs), and sunroof, but are not in the normal panel. They are all 16 amps.

Generally, fuse manufacturers follow a color code - 8A, white; 16A, pink; 25A blue; but I have seen red 16's and 25's. In any case, the amperage is shown in a raised imprint on the back of the ceramic or plastic fuse body.

All my various 114 and 123 models have the fuse numbers as a raised imprint in the bakelite holder, in line with each "slot". If in doubt, (in a 114) look for either 2nd posit being a different-colored 25A or 16A, vs 8A - that's likely #2.

Hope this helps, not adds to confusion - the problem being that there are many variants, depending upon edition and options.

Stan

On my 108, and all 108s according to my owner's manual, all the fuses in the cabin are 8 or 25 amp fuses. The 25 amp fuses are the short, stubby ones. The rest should all be 8 amp. These specific fuses under the hood of 108's use the following values - if this equipment is covered in your main fuse box, use these I assume.
