I would not recommend Dexcool for older cars because there is no benefit. The longer life of Dexcool is not taken advantage of because you will never be able to rid your system of 100% of the green stuff to make Dexcool 100% effective. I also know for a fact that in some vehicles, it tends to gel in the heater core for some reason thus plugging it and causing headaches.

Stick with the green stuff and regular changes.

Cheers!

OMG! Dexcool is NO GOOD for our MB cars. Just use Zerex or something formulated for European cars with Aluminum Radiators and flush yearly or every 20k

Newer MBs might have aluminum rads, but most of the vintage ones have copper/brass ones. Dexcool is made more for aluminum rad systems than these.

My experiences with it are mixed. When I drained my system and flushed it out, I had a LOT of red stuff around my block. I know some was rust, but I also think quite a lot was from the dexcool. I've switched to yellow Prestone. I'll give you the verdict on that in a while. The generic green wal*mart brand I wouldnt use as a last effort - I'd go straight water before touching that crap. Corrosion protection with it is nonexistant.

Exclamation

GM recently had a little known recall ! advising to flush it out of the systems and replace with Zerex .Due to hose & gasket material deteration .It was originly designed for safty being non toxic .
