I seem to recall seeing something about using a fulepump for VW...at a much lower cost, but same specs.
Anyone?

Edit: Ops...it's 580 USD.....I can't wait to hear the price here! Praying for the filter to be the cause.
Any way to repair the pump?
Yes, a pump from a fuel- injected VW Bus or Vanagon will fit the bill- Model years 1975- 91 (U.S. Spec with fuel injection). I've used this conversion on lots of the early injected cars from 220SE to 6,3. NOTE: This is NOT for D-Jet cars! (3,5, 4,5)
I also add a clear inline filter between the fuel tank and the pump. All the conversion takes is some extra hose and fabricating a bracket. Save all of your old mounting hardware and pump so that you can go back to original later if you wish. Lots of times those pumps can be rebuilt from what I understand. I've never done one, though.

Will a pump from a 4.5 be adaptable?

Hi

It was not the filter....because it had already been removed....only the plug left.

Will take a look in the local junkyard for a spare pump, or check with the copy-part dealers.

The 4.5L pump looks different then my pump.
I guess I forgott to specify that I have a 6-cyl M130 engine.

Checking the pump-intake later, taking the rest of the evening off, we have a VERY hot day here for May, it peaked at 27 deg C......

Anyone here have a spare fule-pump that is working, for sale???

Ah, I just checked my d-jet docs for the 4.5 - the fuel pump for 4.5's are 1L/30s so it doesnt supply the volume needed I suppose. The D-Jet pump is designed for pressure, not flow rate. I was thinking for that price you could check and see if it were adaptable.

Talking

Hi

Ok boys....I could not let the problem rest so I removed the pump input line and the gravity-test was good.
The I tried to remove the intake filter, but it was stuck and given the ruber suspension the pump is mounted on, I did not get enough force to loosen it.
So....frustrated, and not to eager to take out the pump I grabbed a bottle of high-pressure air and blew into the filter.
And out came some VERY dirty fuel.....

Well, I connected the testline on the output and ....WOW...the gas flow was up to spec of 1 L in 15 sec!!!

Ok, put things back in place for test.
Pull was better, but I lacked one cylinder.
So, removing one spark-wire (?) at a time revealed that cyl 1 was not doing the job.
took one spark-wire from my 4.5L and exchanged it with the original.
Started her up again....hmmm....a bit better.
Well, I went for a drive and gave her a hard run to clean out the dirt and WOW....she is not the same car!
I got better pul then ever, infact I took her to 100 MPH without trouble!

t's like getting a new car.

I still have to aquire test-tools to do the ignition timing and also valve-timing, but now it is a pleasure to drive the car, not a frustrating experiance.

Thanks for your help and patience boys.

And BTW, can someone please tell why the engine revs up when I press the brake-pedal?

Learning new things every day!

On these old tanks , many guys just install a good size, in-line filter in the gravity feed gas line between the tank and the pump... you do NOT want to see what dirt from an old tank will do to your MFI injection pump !!!

Hi Arthur

Sure, I belive you.

So, I'm getting a new tank-filter + put a inline-filter in.

The filter on the input-side of the pump is still there, and also the filter on the MFI so I think the danger is acceptable for a few days.

Any thoughts on the engine rev'ing up as I press the brake-pedal?

And sorry for all the questions.....

You have a leaking ATE brake booster..
Check at the connector from the engine vac feed line at front of booster and the O ring where the master mounts ... very common
Also check for binding relay lever at mounting pedal pivot.. another common complaint area on that vintage ATE set-up
