pionts gap // dwell angle

i would like to know if dweel angle is the same as pionts gap, i have a 280s w116, and i have ajusted the pionts gap at .30mm, as i have no acsess to a dwell angle meter.

is piont gap adjustment and dwell angle adjustment the same thing?

what is the correct pionts gap for my vehicle?

thanx in advance

I havent adjusted a set of points in years. Point gap is a rough starting point to find dwell. Once the engine is running the dwell should be quite close.
You need to adjust your timing after you adjust your points it will be off.

points set by feeler gauge is a rough estimate at best. I use an antique dwell meter. I was meticulous setting the point gap but was still off 12 degrees.
Using the meter helps greatly , also improved performance.

Dwell angle for an m110 should be 34° +/- 1°. When finished, set your timing. My book says 4°ATDC for 1973/1974, and 7° BTDC for 1975/1976, both with vacuum.

You can get a dwell meter for $30USD from Sears.

The dwell mantra goes like this, "To increase the dwell, decrease the gap".

As others have found, it's important toget the dwell right for the engine to work at it's best. It will run with it
off but well.
