Beck/Arnley parts...
I ordered several parts from a local parts store that they sourced from Beck/Arnley...the guy at the counter says that Beck/Arnley just reboxes and markets parts from vendors all over the world. This parts store treats this as their premium line, and had other aftermarket lines that were much cheaper. Any thoughts on Beck/Arnley parts?

They ate up BAP/GEON and Lazorlite years ago. The quality and wide coverage is pretty good. They even used to have brake parts for early '60s Mercedes. Yes, lot's the stuff is re-boxed but it's as good as NAPA is for domestic parts. The downside is the price, if the parts store is greedy and had figured out ou really need the widget. IMHO.

The pricing wasn't horrible at all, although Advance was exactly $1 cheaper on each part than Autozone. I normally go to O'Reilly's but the other stores were on my way to the restaurant for dinner. Does NAPA do much by way of MB parts? The only NAPA store I've ever been in is in a rural community and seemed to stock all sorts of tractor parts, but had never even heard of Zerex G05 coolant...looked at me like I had 2 heads. Then I went to the Orscheln Farm and Home store 2 blocks away, they had the Zerex for $9.99/gallon. Gold bottle with the blurb on it about Ford and Chrysler using it in their newer cars.

Napa, in my opinion, is a great rescource for anything domestic. They are pricey but they stock oil filters for my 1952 Ford tractor and today I just picked up a set of points/cond. for a 1946 CJ-2 Jeep, they had them in stock. They usually can make hydraulic hoses and have good machine shops.
You will probably be very happy with the quality of Beck-Arnley, see if the guy at the store will give you a old catalog. They are great for cross-referencing(sp) parts and looking up your own oddball parts. |

Many moons ago, when I lived in LA, Beck/Arnley parts were indispensable in keeping my 250C on the road. No complaints.

The parts came in, distributor cap and rotor, both Beru brand, both worked beautifully. The orange plastic looks a little silly under the hood though, but beggars can't be choosers, as my mom used to say.
