W110 Brake Shoes
Does anyone know of a good source for rear brake shoes for a '67 200D? I've looked high and low and have not had any luck. I found one guy on e-bay recommended in another thread but he has not got back to me. The dealer laughed in my face then told me $280 PER SHOE. That's just silly. The other option would be to have them re-lined. I have not had any work like this done to any car before and have no idea of what it's worth. The local shops don't seem to know either, as they haven't done work like this in years, and will not give me a quote. So, am I screwed? Or is there hope?

There is nothing wrong with having the shoes relined, many repair shops used to do it themselves to save time back in the day. Try these people, they have years of experience with vintage Mercedes brake systems, and can have the shoes back to you in a few days. I have used them before and the quality is superb. http://www.whitepost.com/
You could also try picking up a copy of Hemmings Motor News, in the services offered section, you will find lots of places that will reline the shoes. |

Get them relined
I still get the shoes for my 49 Caddy relined. I know if 2 shops here in San Diego and 3 in Los Angeles that do it, and I've used all of them before, this is dating back to my 53 Jag XK120. If you can't find someone local, take John's advice and check out Hemmings

Have you tried higher end parts places like NAPA? (Wouldn't go to the places like O-Reilly as they would probably look at you funny and have no idea what you are talking about.) At one time JC Whitney was able to get parts like that. The dealer should be able to get them, put I bet the price is high. Sounds like your dealer didn't want to deal with it. I would get a Hemmings Motor News (or go to their site) and look for parts sources. I'm sure you will need to make some calls as cars that old are not usually listed on sites. I'm sure they should be available, or can be special ordered. Brake parts for any car (unless you get a real odd ball) are parts that are always available.

True, unless you have Dunlop rear disc brakes on a early '60s 300SE sedan, w112 chassis.

Try **************.com. They told me they could probably locate the wheel cylinder kits for my 62 190D, I just haven't had the dough set aside yet to get serious about it.

I'm pretty sure Millers has them -- at least they used to...

The shoes are very hard to get on a outright basis. I would make sure if I sent them out to be re-lined that they are insured for replacement value.

Right on.
I meant to say the core charge is huge, and if you mess up and lose the box or wait too long you will be out the huge core charge. Miller's is a great place to buy parts for the old timers. I have dealt with them for over twenty years and have found them to be very honest and helpfull. Unlike a certain 190SL/280SL/450SL parts/restoration shop that will remain nameless. |

Let's just say they had a thick, slow, and dimwitted southern drawl.
