Compressor

I have a 220V, 25gallon Compressor with a 5hp (rated) motor. I have heard people say you need at least 60 gallons but I have to question this because I seen cars in the UK get painted with smaller compressors.

I'm doing lots of reading now and have bought the paintucation DVD that has a guy with the lairyest mullet explain the paint process. It's a pretty informative DVD.

You are a brave man tackling a semi abandoned Rover sedan. God Bless You.

Weather or not a compressor will be enough or not depends on the sustained flow of air. A larger tank will make up for a slower recovery. When you are refilling your spray gun the compressor has a chance to catch up. With a 25 gallon compressor, you are depending on the compressor being able to supply all the air, there is little to no reserve in the tank. Is your compressor a 2 stage? 2 stage run more efficiently and can be identified by having 1 piston smaller then the other. If it is a 2 stage it should be enough compressor.

rover

hi ali, what makes you think that you can do something bmc could never do back in the days when they were building those rovers i.e. make it work reliably and stay ahead of the rust[it has been said that if you stood really close to a rover that you could hear the rust eating up the car]i bet if you can make it all work that you might make the queen's new year knighthood list because the brits never could. have a good working weekend david poole.

I'm not trying to build them on a liquid diet?

I'll be in Dallas next week, I'll give you call then.

All the best

Wodnek's challange

Wodnek, if you think your black 6.9 is a challange, take a look at this one.
It's being restored by a gentleman in the UK.

I wouldnt touch that with a 100-ft pole, nevermind a 10-ft one.

Someone would have to be hopelessly in love to touch that one! I think its dropped below the parts car threshold.

I think it's amazing

To David's point, the climate, and salt on the roads in the UK results in cars needing floorpan work within the first 10 years. If your interested in classic motoring (which many Brits are) you better be ready to break out the welder.

RHD examples of these cars in the UK are very rare and still worth something. The fact that he's bringing an m-100 back from the brink is pretty amazing to me.

It'd definetly COST less to rip out that garden and build a 2 car climate-controlled garage there than to get that 6.9 roadworthy and running again!

Weekend Wrenching

Did some of my own today:
1> Today i drilled all the holes in the bottom of the doors of the 300D i am restoring. We had to replace the metal on the bottoms of the two doors on the driver side, so I had to lay out and drill new holes.
2> Changed the oil on my 79 300SD
3> Took up the carpets on the 79 300SD to check the floor boards for rust. My camera batteries were dead or I would have posted pictures. One tiny rust hole the size of a dime and alot of assorted blistering. I POR 15 the floor on the drivers side. The hole I filled in with POR 15 seam sealer. Amazingly the passenger side was very clean.
4> replaced the cliamate control amp from my parts car.
