The seller's dad bought the car new, MSRP $25500, at BMW of Costa Mesa, and still has the window sticker, along with receipts for every oil change and bit of maintenance ever done. He uses redline synthetic gear lubes and fluids, and non-synthetic Rotella oil at 3000 miles intervals. The car is riding on Firestone tires, almost new, I think they are LJ30's or something along those lines, not a high-performance tire by any stretch of the imagination, but I think they are 14 inch, so choices are limited, just like on older MB cars. It looks fairly simple to work on...we'll see.

I rather chase down 14-inch tires than try to find replacements for the pricy metric TRX wheels used on the 528e's more upscale brother, the 535i.

I could see chasing TRX's on a fancy-schmancy import like a 5-series, but what about those poor souls with Ford Tempo's and Mustangs who got saddled with TRX's?! Bet they were in for a shock at the tire store!

TRXs were also featured on the almost-forgotten Renault Fuego. Many owners of surviving TRX-equipped cars have long since replaced their factory rims with ones of normal size.

Man, Fuego's were slick, orangish-tan leather interior and all! I haven't seen one in MANY years. Now you've piqued my curiosity...I'm going to google that car and see what's out there.

Since you've "culled the herd", perhaps you could find a Fuego on eBay and really diversify your collection!

Good grief, that's just what I need. I should buy a Lancia or Fiat too, just to keep things interesting. I'm content to play with mainstream German cars. I really would like a small BMW too...2002 or 320i, no sunroof, manual windows, simple and easy to work on.

In a recent book of the 'World's Worst Cars', the author described the Renault Fuego's styling AND acceleration as being "mollusk-like"!

If you'd like to find something offbeat in a German car, you could look for an old Borgward, NSU, or what I have, a '57 DKW 3=6 Sonderklasse Panoramic Coupe (Basically a '50s Audi)

Talking

Yikes! If you're into masochism, why not find a Trabant? A Yugo? Maybe just try gargling ground glass?

If he's going to go that route...
Complete the collection with a Dacia 500!

Do I not have enough problems in my life? I must confess that I have been looking at 60's era Ramblers and Studebakers for sale...that Studie Wagonaire wagon with the sliding roof looks cool. Or how about a Lark convertible?

I did it again

I had looked at several late-80's SAAB 9000 turbo's in the last couple of days and just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger and make an offer. I stumbled onto a 1988 BMW 735iL today, 135xxx miles, ice blue with dark blue leather, needs a good cleaning but otherwise looks OK, has a front end shimmy at 55MPH plus and the A/C needs a shot of refrigerant. Asking $2000, paid $1250. I'll pick up Monday evening on my way home from work.
