I need to bring my 250CE here sharpish

Some may know that I have a 71 250CE in the UK. I bought this car in the early 90's when I was 19 years old. It was a total basket case but I restored it once (sort off) and drove it as a daily driver for a short time during my second year at University. With Fuel in the UK being so high, it nearly broke the bank.

In 99, I decided to repaint it and the person who did the work did an awful job, after then I parked the car outside my father's house and then moved to the US in 2000. I just got this picture of the car. What a tragedy

At it's best it looked like this

The last 6 years have been hard on it. I think I need to bring it to the US sooner then later.

It's easy

It should roll right in, DOT and EPA drop off at 25 years old. There's a RHD 450SEL at my local yard.

Then you're gonna register it and drive it like a normal car? Should be a panic for the passenger sittin there with no steering wheel or pedals.

I don't see why not,

There are plenty of LHD cars in the UK and it's harder to drive a LHD car there then it is here as there are many more single lane roads and over taking can only legally be done right. Here with all the lanes your hardly ever going over cross lanes to over take.

I tell you what though, if you ever decide to come to Atlanta ,I have a spare steering wheel sitting in my garage so we can have a bit of fun

Yeah and at GA you dont even need a title, paperwork or statement of origin, do you? Just toss the car in a container and ship it to Port of Savannah. Then drive it from the docks to motor vehicles and get it registered on the spot.

(edit: And thanks for the invite, reminds me that I've still got the contact number for the farmer in Athens with 1964 190c in his barn. You can follow up on it if you want..... was good running engine, decent body, bad brakes last i heard - $500 or less.

No problem

Currently from South Hampton to Savannah, RoRo runs for about $1300-1400 USD. 38% of that is a fuel surcharge. I need to go back to England and make it somewhat road worthy enough to drive onto the ship and drive off. It's been sitting a long time.

Maybe a week or two in the UK is in order.

Naah this wont

I don't think this one will. The previous paint job that some pin holes that I could have probably repaired. Instead I was talked into some scum bag mechanic to have his brother paint it. He used a cheap single stage paint and it look crap the moment he painted it. It will need to be redone. However I have good people now who should be able to sort the car out.

This car will need complete new floor pans and two new rear quarters before the paint goes on. I'm certain I can get a better deal if by buying another one but I have had it so long, I think my father will kill me if I say I didn't want it anymore (seeing that he has had to put up with it for 6 years).

I would bring it over...

Wow this is cool forum. I bought a 1972 250CE, very very cool car. A RHD would be so awesome. Just get it running and bring her over. I have the same rust issues, and the estimates that I've gotten for body work is reasonable. Well i guess these cars aren't worth a whole lot of money, so may be its not reasonable. BUT, these cars are great, I get a lot of compliments on mine and they drive really well. I live in Atlanta as well, and there are a lot of body shops that do a great job. I should probably find a mechanic since I've been doing most of the mechanical work myself, and I seem to have less and less time these days.

If you M114E owners need the service manual, let me know. The "Introduction to service 250E/CE" is the only publication I know of that has the EFI circuit diagrams for that car. -CTH
