Whaaaaaaaaat?

Your fiancee actually washed the cars?

I've been married for 17 years, and I don't think my wife has washed our cars even once.

I think she's a keeper.

She's also looks like a hottie.

Gustav (the 280SE 4.5), Elvira (my Miata), Cat (her Miata), and MaYada (Miata we're fixing up for her Ma) all got midnight baths (too dang hot during the day time). I wandered about with my camera, taking time outs from the strain of that activity to sit in my little folding chair and just watch . Oh yeah - she also spent 10+ hours polishing Gustav's chrome the day after he came home.

Ab-so-frickin-loot-ly. In addition to washing the rides, she routinely checks and tops off fluids, pesters me to teach her how the various systems work, and generally keeps things running smooth. Next project is the brakes on Cat - which she'll do will I coach from my little red chair (combination of my recent spinal surgery and her enthusiasm requires that I let her do all the work.

the picture on the left shows the chassis number stamped into the radiator support. There should also be a metal plate with that same number on it near by.

The picture on the right shows the data plate. Those three digit codes are some of the items off the data card. The card will have more. (the earlier posts show what 589 and 491 mean).

The 290H is the paint code and the 7 all by itself on the next line is a region code for where the car was delivered (the US). I believe the numbers on the bottom row give some clues about where on the production line the car was built.

But to answer your decoding request of the info available from the chassis # you posted,it goes like this:

108-- this is the chassis type
067 - this is the chassis version type
1 - this is LHD [ a 2 here would be a RHD]
2 - this is auto trans [ a 0 here would be standard/manual trans.]
000183 is the serial # of that particular chassis

108.067-12-000183

Give that # to the Classic Center and they will have that chassis particulars on file and send it to you.

Recently an MB parts guy told me the Transmission designation on my '77 was either 1 or 2, not zero. Did MB make a change between '72 and '77?
