OK, here I go again with a response on MBCA....

http://mbca.cartama.net/showthread.php?t=14422

I couldn't resist this one...maybe I was a little harsh, but these are all too typical of the kind of postings there. Anyone who thinks they need a mercedes master to tell them why their car won't start doesn't understand the first thing about engines or how they run...it doesn't matter if it is a benz or a bonneville, if you ain't got fuel, compression and spark you ain't gonna run. I learned that when I was 12 years old fixing go carts and mini-bikes at summer camp.

yeah I saw that one. My take on the original post was that the fellow's english is fair to middling. Hopefully he'll return with some details.

The twit that posted about changing the plugs in the diesel was just playing a poor game. Every board has a few of them about.

Yeah, I wasn't meaning to make fun of his language ability, just the fact that he says he's had two techs look at a DOA car and neither one can find what's wrong is what's laughable. From the list of parts he's thrown at it I would bet the problem is something really simple and he just hasn't found someone who knows basic auto mechanics. It's really a shame...I was just trying to tell him he doesn't need a MB master to at least diagnose the problem...once it is found then he may need a specialist to assist in fixing it but it's got to be the easiest thing in the world to take a car that won't start and at least pinpoint why, like I said, I could have done that at 12.

Could be as simple as a bad connection in the ignition system or as bad as a broken timing chain...but knowing the root cause of why it won't start shouldn't be brain surgery.

Well everybody has to start somewhere. I've learned an awful lot from both this forum, the MBCA forum and a few other Mercedes forums. I'm not afraid to tackle most anything now because I know that help is only an e-mail away if I get stuck. My cars haven't been in a shop other than my own garage for four or five years. If we can teach him a few things like to diagnose and not throw parts at the problem or to get a good manual and read it (owner's manual included), then if we really get lucky, he might be answering our questions in a few years.

Yes,

I appreciate the fact that I have been treated very well here. A lot of you guys are light years ahead of me when it comes to mechanical issues and specifically MB issues. Thnks for not treating me like an idiot. It speaks very highly of the folks here.

Hey listen just to let you know about the two sites. I am a MB owner and registered on MB site. I own a 1965 w111 coupe. I know that car inside and out. I visit both sites equally and if anybody from either site needs help on the early coupes I am more then willing to help, and if your in North bay area (95405) bring your car over and I will work on it labor free (hint beer is welcome). Now this is from a mercedes benz club member

I love your town

I love your town, Leonard. I wish I lived close enough to take you up on that offer. I've only been there once, but hope to come back some more.

Thanks for your generosity. If I'm there long enough to meet you, I'll bring the beer and we can just shoot the breeze while you show off your car. Thanks.
