the grill is not the correct one for that model, looks like it is off of an older SL, the hood has also been modified

Many years ago, I copied an ad, from an early '80s Road & Track classifieds, for this same car, or one just like it with the same grill transplant! I'll look for it when I get back to Alexandria.

at first glance i said it was a 126 coupe grill, but on further look it is too deep in the middle. i am not sure if it is an sl grill from the 300sl fifties or not, i suspect it might be bigger than that. i suspect it might be a completely hand made grill using a tristar from a truck.

pretty slick! some one spent some time to build that front end for sure. and probably some $$$. that would not be easy to do and look as seamless as it does.

Smile Hey Mark

I'd would love to see the classified ad if you ever find it. This is getting kind of exciting now. In my own sorry way.

i dont know about that. it is a lot taller in the middle. the 113 grill is more the same width as it goes across the front.

I'll also have to look at my spare 230SL grill when I get back to Alexandria.

Yes , you do not know about that.
We have 2 113s sitting right here and they are twice as wide at the center, believe me.

touche'!

i guess maybe i have offended with my comments, that is not my intention, i am just a wanderer searching for the truth.

it sure looks a lot like a 113 grill, but what about the top of the grill in the picture? it looks like a wide chrome lip wraps up over the body work.

dont you think without measurements it is pretty hard to be certain?

i also wonder about the overall width of the grill in the picture, it looks as if it might be too wide to be a 113 grill.

then too it is a fairly close picture, the lense may be distorting it some too.

i just looked again at a pic of the 113. i think maybe in the 113 the grill is angled toward the front more than in this application. that would make the above application appear wider if it is stood up more straight, which it appears it may be.

so i will concede it appears to be a 113 grill. i would love to have a look at t hat car in person. the level of work involved to do it is considerable. it looks to be a very seamless job.

As you say, the picture is not the best for measure or clarity, but I doubt it to be a home-made one either.

the 113 is the logical answer.

wish i could inspect it in person. it is pretty cool looking in the pic. i would love to have a look at the other side of the metal.

Cool More pics guys

This car has sparked some interesting conversation. These pics were taken with my cell phone, so no, they aren't the best quality. I'm planning on going back with my digital camera this weekend to take clearer shots with my 8 megapixel camera:-) The car is actually located in my neighborhood. In the meantime take a look at these two pics. And let's get to the bottom of this together!

Cheers!
