6.3 suspension

Can the air bags on a 6.3 or 4.5 sel be changed to the std. suspension. (springs and shocks from a 4.5 280)
Thanks
Petey

Given the substantial difference in weight between the M100 and M116 engines, it's unlikely that the 4.5 front springs could properly deal with the heavier 6.3 front end.

I have seen some spring converted 6.9's on ebay. I have no idea how they did it but I presume it can be done. It won't ride the same though.

Try a search - there's a fairly recent thread on this or maybe more than one. The short answer is a 4.5 can be converted but a 6.3 cannot - there's simply too much weight in the front.

You're looking at 1000$ in parts for the job correctly. Don't pay more than 600$ for a set of bellows. Get used valves. The kingpin parts are the same as a conventional spring car.

The air suspension is unusual, but once working is more than worth it. Besides, you'll still have the 6.3 and its MFI to worry about. That's the real money pit.

The weight is not a problem, custom springs can be made if needed. There are a lot heavier vehicles than a 6.3 that are sprung.
