Oil Cooler for a 1971 220D

All,

I have a cracked oil cooler on my 1971 220D. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement cooler. A lot of places have hoses but no coolers. I have run across some aftermarket places that sell generic coolers at different sizes. Anyone know where I can get a replacement cooler or had success with a generic substitution?

Thanks.
Bill

Something to consider is that oil coolers can be mounted anywhere and still be effective. Doesnt have to be alongside the radiator in the air stream. So if you find a decent after market unit that fits anywhere in the engine compartment then I'd go for it.

i would try to find a good used one. there are probably a wide range of years that would work.

Arizona/texas salvage yards would be my first choice but you may find one in or near your locality. Another source might be vendors of used mercedes parts in hemmings magazine. They usually list models they are parting out. Also a chance a forum member may sell you one. Watch your thread for awhile. I really should start a parts locator service as a hobby. I get a lot of requests to find parts for people. Usually succesful and economical but like a lot of things I do not have the time really. With the net being cheap to use and so usable it is indeed easier than the old days to locate things now. Plus shop for the best price. Also move your request to the parts wanted/for sale segment of this site. Best of luck.

71 220D oil cooler

Bill,
email me with measurements and some jpg's, if possible. I cannibalized a W115 220D eons ago for tranny; which was running (poorly) and not leaking at the time - if this is the one that sits alongside radiator (slides into tabs thereon?) on left side.
I'll have to dig around for it - has no use in any of my 250/280 gassers, so could let go reasonably and UPS or Priority Mail fm Va to NJ shouldn't be too bad.
