You are a unique and savvy person with regards to these cars, I agree with the euro bumpers and lights you could probably come out ahead parting it out if you decide to do that. From hearing about your prior exploits the old adage "the cheap Mercedes is the most expensive one" DOES NOT necessarily apply to you. You are one of the very few people who could probably but a car like that and not lose money on it, whether you part it or fix it.

But on the other hand you could probably put a few $$$ into it and make a runner out of it too. Seems you have a handle on the DMV issues too! I agree, the back penalties can sting.

Seems amazing this car which was the +$50,000 flagship model of its day could get knocked down for under $500!!!

It's a true Euro, with the "Anti kidnapping/hijacking" option, the 6.9 badge delete option that was often ordered for these models in Germany and Italy back in the day.

If you fix it and keep it for a while you could badge the trunk lid with 300SD Turbodiesel script, just for laughs at the stoplight Grand Prix

Maybe just for fun you should rent the movie "Ronin" before you decide whether you'd rather fix it or part it.

This should be interesting! Good luck to you whatever you do!!

All you would need then is a E34 M5 and a Audi S8 and you'd have the Ronin collection.

I posted about these cars back in early September. The guy has THREE cars, two are 6.9's and one's a 280sel 4.5.

If I wasn't on the wrong coast, I'd have purchased them by now.

The 6.9 can be a fire breathing monster if you are both patient and careful about getting it running right. It can also be a money pit to fix everything. At least one of his cars needs suspension work.

If you live in Santa Rosa, buy all three cars from him, get them running well enough to move under their own power and resell them on a more visible market than criag's list.

His big problem is that he's moving, so he's already on borrowed time.

Why are you even asking us? 500 bucks for a rust free 116, even if it were not a 6.9 it'd be worth it and you know it. You must do it man! You MUST! DO YOU HEAR ME. IT"S ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREAT AUTOMBILES OF ALL TIME. YOU MUUUUSSSSST!

I had to read that twice. I though you preferred his 20 year old daughter. Remember, she's got 31 other teeth (presuming the wizdom teeth haven't been pulled yet). -CTH

Well

I did in fact prefer his daughter she had fine teeth however my wife has an old rusty potato peeler to use should I drag something like that home you just go ahead and use your imagination as to what the wife would do with the rusty old potato peeler it will be clear why I stick to cars. .
