1966 230 torque converter removal
I pulled the engine and tranny on my 1966 230 parts car (recent M180 rebuild) a few months back. I've now pulled the tranny off in prep to put motor on an engine stand (needs head gasket) and found the torque converter still on flywheel. The CD-Rom MB manual shows that converter stays in tranny bell housing and must be removed by placing tranny on tail and lifting converter straight up. But mine's not like that; instead it stayed with motor when tranny and engine were split. Light pressure with bar around the edges, or screwdirvers on opposite sides, doesn't budge it. I don't want to screw anything up. Engine immaculate: 5000 miles on it (California MB shop rebuild); tranny front seal still had assembly grease around the seal and inside bell housing just spotless.
How do I remove this? I can't find details in manuals or with search of this site or others. TIA, SSM |

Did you remove the bolts holding the converter to the flywheel?

Thanks for the reality check. I removed all but one. Goes to show what a late night in the shop does to the brain ...
