I'VE JUST BOUGHT A 1964 230 SL THATS BEEN LAID UP FOR SOME TIME. I TRIED TO START IT, IT RAN BREIFLY WITH LOTS OF BLACK SMOKE BUT I'VE HAD TOUBLE STARTING IT SINCE. I TOOK OFF THE INJECTOR PIPES AND SWITCHED THE IGNITION ON. FUEL PUMPED OUT OF # 3,5 AND 6 [TOP OF PUMP]. ARE THE SEALS PERISHED? THERE IS NOTHING COMING OUT OF THE INJECTORS WHEN I TURN THE ENGINE OVER. HAS ANYONE GOT A COPY OF THE MERCEDES COLLECTOR REPORT ON THESE PUMPS? I'M IN THE UK SO GETTING A COPY COULD TAKE TIME. IS IT WORTH GETTING? I'M STILL SEARCHING FOR BOSCH PUPLICATIONS COVERING THE OVERHAUL OF THIS SERIES OF PUMPS [I KNOW ITS NOT DIY BUT IF I CAN GET INFO ON HOW TO FLY TO THE MOON WHY NOTHING ON THESE PUMPS?} I HAVE A COUPLE OF SPARE PUMPS OFF A W108 280 SE SO I'M GOING TO DO SOME INVESTIGATING. ANYONE KNOW OF ANY GOOD WEB SITES THAT HAVE INFO ON THSES PUMPS? THANKS FOR ANY REPLIES.

It's time for a rebuild. Some of the internal parts are no longer available and proper adjustment requires either a test bench or a very good portable CO meter (and an endless supply of patience). Finding some one capable isn't that hard. I've had good results from Robert Fairchild, but be careful about sending pumps air freight. We had two 6.3 pumps (on the same shipment) come back with "blown" barometric chambers. UPS still claims that the cargo bays are always pressurized, but I can't think of another way to ruin an aneroid chamber.
Regards,
Randy D.
