Torque Convertor Fit

Does anyone know if a torque convertor from a 1972 250C with a 6 cyclinder engine will fit in a 64 220SB, with a 112 transmission? I've changed engines, but the local german mechanic tells me the flywheel and crank are balanced, and I have to keep the flywheel from the 72 on the engine, but it won't fit the torque convertor from my 64 - different bolt pattern. I'm trying to decide if I should rebuild the 64 engine, or can I just get a different torque convertor for my existing trans. Any advice?

Thanks

SJB
