Lovely evening with the coupe
I haven't posted here much, but have mined mounds of tech info. Thanks to the wealth of information on these forums, I have been able to install rear seatbelts, a new fuel pump, do countless small things myself, and have the exhaust replaced, all of which brought my 3.5 to the point of refinement where we could use it for the traditional fetching-of-the-tree this year.
Thanks to all you guys and happy holidays from myself, the wife and boys. |

Bravo! I'm not sure I could bring myself to strap a sap-covered tree on top of my $25k classic MB, but I say good for you for doing so! The pic is excellent.

In his defense, he does appear to have a drop cloth on the roof.
Looks like you had a good time!

Fantastic pic. A classic car for a classic undertaking. As for the sap, nothing a little tar remover or WD-40 won't cure.

Glad to see the 111 coupe put to highest and best use!!
......and dont forget traditional family outings at the seashore - traditional tailgate picnics at July 4th fireworks displays - traditional visit to the pumpkin farm in October - traditional road trip to granny's house for Thanksgiving dinner and countless other traditional events including little league championship baseball games, taking the kids to Summer camp, college campus tours and so on and on for the next few hundred thousand miles at least |

Thanls for the compliments, guys..
Location is NE Tennessee - about 20 miles or less from the N.C. line. Car roof well protected by a heavy wool surplus blanket. As long as I'm sharing photos - here's another one. We decided to use the car for our Christmas cards this year. All I want for Christmas is a set of subframe mounts (installed), to have 'park' fixed, a major tune-up, valve seats, the leak fixed in the power steering pump, the heat fixed, a set of sheepskin seatcovers..... You guys know 'the list', right? - Will |

Although we all treasure our classics, it’s nice to see a car being used as, well, a car, rather than a too precious museum piece. Bravo and I say next year, pile the family in and strap 2 trees to it!
Case in point: My 72 28SE 4.5. Stripped Bass fishing under the Point Judith lighthouse on the coast of RI. Happy Holidays!

Exactly. I know many people have cars they just want to pamper, and I don't distain that, but I wasn't interested. If I can't drive and enjoy it as I want, I don't want it. My dad used to say, "Some people carry their cars; this car carries me. I like a car to look original as possible, but didn't agonize over taking a dremel to the dash to fit a new stereo. (Purists please ignore that). It made the car more useable to me, and we fully enjoy it. - Will |

Wow-your story makes me long to get my coupe done so I can start enjoying it again. We just got back from a week at Carmel/Pacific Grove/Monterey and the coupe would have been a blast. BTW-the whole time there I only saw 2 classic Benz's-a really nice 600 and a 280SL.

What all is being done to your car? Our cars are similiar - mine's floor shift automatic; yours is manual transmission? Never seen one, I guess. I wish European customers had opted for the Behr AC more often, or that MB had included it (not unreasonable, considering the $). 11102612003472 January 28, 1971 - Will |

Just picked up a 64 coupe sunroof, 4 spd, original silver with red guts car in California. I am soooo envious of you at this point. It will probably be next year before I will be able to show such fine pictures... I am honestly loosing sleep over it like it was Christmas and I was 5. I too have a couple youngsters and can't wait to go for the aformentioned outings. These cars were built for that type of service. Drive it and enjoy it. Thanks for the posting!

Awesome, simply awesome.
BTW, she is smokin' hot. Don't get me wrong - that's a good looking family there - but the car looks incredible!

An MBZ has to be driven.
The older Mercedes has to be driven or the plugs foul from the occassional engine idle run and all kinds of seals dry up (AC,Shocks,Pwr Str, etc.)! My dog loves going for a drive with the top down. Looks like the Smith family really enjoys their classic.
