Whats my w108 worth
I'm thinking of selling the 280SEL 4.5. It's a 1973 and runs great now. I was in the process of restoring it and it's almost done with a little more work to finish it.
Some may remember that i have spent a huge effort trying to make it run right and when I eventually did, someone rear ended me. Since, i had the rear end damage pulled and gave the car a full repaint in metallic silver (bc/cc). The paint is flawless. The car has blue leather interior from a 300SEL and new headliner. Any idea of what i should throw it on eBay for? Here is a link to the restoration photos: http://www.w108.org/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=73-280SEL-Restoration-Pictures

Just held an Atlanta MB GTG: Pics from the Atlanta Mercedes Get-together
That's what I'd do - take it to car shows and shop it there. |

Yeah, I'm still debating it, but if I do decide to sell. It will probably go on eBay as there is nothing I hate more then tire kickers.

What's left
OK here's the list. Some may think it's long, but it's a a lot shorter then before :-)
Heater levers - I have a new assembly from a Euro car, I just need to install it. Speedo Cable - broke recently Window regulator on the drivers side Dash wood - Cracked, I have another one, will need to refinish it. Door wood - needs to be re-installed. Radio - some git stole the face plate and left the rest Carpet - in OK condition but grey, should be blue to match the new interior. Dash cracked - either cap it or replace it. A/C, holds a vac but freon doesn't last long. I've been using R406a and it's freezing. I just need to fix the slow leak. WRT how much I'm looking at getting for it. I don't know yet. I have spent around 4-5k on the mechanical prior to it getting hit and then around 4-5k repairing the damage and painting it. It has a new headliner, new door seals and trunk seal. The engine has a new timing chain and tensioner (courtesy of David Poole of Dallas TX). I've also had the fuel injection wiring harness rebuilt (courtesy of Chris Spencer in Atlanta GA) and the computer on it now allows it to run like a train. I would like to recoup more then 1/2 that. If I don't I'll just keep it because it looks like it's worth a million bucks now.

Man, if only I wasn't looking for a daily driver first, I'd hop on it like the wacko I am!

Tire kickers is what you will get with Ebay as well. There is a considerable problem with Ebay buyers that don't look at the car in person - they won't pay anything for a car. Who in their right mind is going to pay a decent price for a car that they have not seen.

Or just park it somewhere conspicuous.

Flawed or not, more cars are sold on ebay motors than on any car dealer in the U.S.

300M would be the mother's DD. The Pontiac gets worse mileage than the Jeep, and I'm unsure of its real highway road worthiness, so I use the Jeep for now (when my friend doesn't drive his Cavy). He's probably gonna get canned soon, so the need for a better-cruising highway ride is getting up there.
