300sel 6.3 US vs. EU version

Hi all

I am considering a US-version of the 300SEL 6.3

What are the main differance between US and EU versions?
How much did emission control affect the performance of the US-version?

Regards

Tom

that's being debated right about now at www.m-100.cc actually. One of the fellows there has one of the 1st cars to come to the US and he started asking the question. -CTH

Until the end of the 1969 model year, there were few differences between the US and EU models -- the US models had very very slight emissions related changes but this didn't affect the power generation.

For the 1970 model year, significant changes were made to the compression, fuel injection pump, vapor recovery and other systems that significantly dropped the HP for US models. If you are interested in the most powerful stock models, look for a 1968 or 1969 model and you should be right up there with the rest of the world.

I've created in past years an exhaustive list of differences from year to year between EU and US cars, which is in the archives at www.m-100.info if you are interested.

Cheers,
Gerry
