Part Number identification

1162812501

I have posted this in every forum except for this one which is where I should have started. Can anyone tell me what this is? It should be a 5 speed transmission but I cant make heads or tails of the part number. Also does anyone know if this will fit in a 123? I have a great lead on a decent price for it.

I plugged it into the EPC and got no results.

Are you absolutely sure of the p/n?

The US EPC won't have it, as they were never sold here. It is easy to tell if it's a five speed. The early ones are longer because they have the OD unit on the back end. Can you get a picture?

If it is an early one, be sure it has the linkage. It is impossible to find. I tried for two years to find it after I found a five-speed that I was going to put in my 250C.

You are better off looking for the later Getrag five-speed. This was used in the US in the 300E and 190 2.6, and will work in the 123 AFAIK. You may need to customize the linkage rods and shorten the driveshaft.

Check where the seller took the part number off. Casing and bellhousing have different numbers. FYI, there was a 5 speed on Ebay for sale a while ago and it had 115 251 26 01 on the bellhousing. All other numbers started with 117. My V8 4 speed bellhousing is 117 251 2501. Numbers can sometimes be hard to read. Make sure there is not a typo (5 can look like a 6 and 6 like an 8). Cast-in numbers 115 251 26 01 could look like your 116 281 25 01 (5 mistaken for 6 and 8,and 6 mistaken for 5) through wear and bad mold casting.
