That's not the right cap shown for an M189. The M89 distributor cap has the leads flat, three pointing one way and three another, with the "center lead" pointing yet a third way.

Unfortunately, the correct cap is a small fortune.

Found this data after much searching.
Could this be the part #1235520044 for the M189.988 300SEL distributor cap?



Hello,
1235520044 is BOSCH part number for the side entry terminal distributor cap from a 80s BOSCH hardcopy catalog.
In 2000 there were claims that it cost US$400 or so but I think it'll be a lot less from BOSCH.
DC classic center pricing policy is to just add a zero to the last retail price of part when it is listed by them, eg $20=$200

The cap number is 0001581702.
Price, and this is no misprint $1,390.00

Jeez, that is a touch higher than I guessed yesterday on the phone! Hopefully the '68 cap will work until financing can be arranged for the proper part.
