Top Gear
For any of you who watch the UK TopGear program, Sunday's episode was a challenge in America. They had a $1,000 to buy a car in Florida and then drive 800 miles with challenges along the way, this one was to try and get each other killed !

Well, the gas station owner wasnt annoyed because they had gay slogans on their cars. She was angry because these clowns rolled into town inciting trouble and insulting the intelligence of everybody in the area. In other words, she nailed it!
Think about that for a moment, these jokers got called on their stunt deliberately aimed at insulting the community - not for the content of the slogans on their cars. |

The car slogans implied country western was crap, Hillary for president and being gay was ok. Why would that incite a mob to show up?
The gas station attendant warns "you're in a hick town" which told them that they were going to get in trouble with those slogans. But then she decides to give them a lesson by letting the dogs loose?? |

My point is that running em out of town had nothing to do with country music, hillary clinton or being gay. None of the crew that showed up used sexual or ethnic slurs. To me it looked like 3 pompous Brits entering and insulting an entire community at large and then getting the treatment they deserved.
(edit: here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKBE2XQTfDQ&eurl= And the instructions should have read: "We want 3 stuffy Brits to insult everybody in sight, hopefully getting their asses kicked." Last edited by 300SDog; 02-19-2007 at 05:47 PM. |

Even then, shouldn't they have simply been reported to the police rather than having the mob stone them and the camera crew who had Uhaul marked vans? |

If you drove around England in 3 cars that had: "The Queen is a Transexual" "Formula 1 Sucks" and "I'm a ****** and it's great" painted on the side, noone would give a rat's ass. Those bubba's are no better than Nazis. |

the thing about calling the police is that the police needs to stay politically correct and they can't do a damn thing.
so much like rednecks' stereotypes, they took the matter into their own hands. |

Alright, I watched the whole episode. I knew the south was full of stereotypes, but yikes - that's one hell of an understatement!
But more importantly, did you guys catch the political statement when they saw New Orleans? James: "We had seen on the news what hurricane Katrina had done, but seeing the devastation for real was truly astonishing." Jeremy: "It's such a vast scale of destruction. A year had passed since Katrina had blown through, and we sort of assumed that after 12 months, the wealthiest nation on Earth would have fixed it. But we were wrong. How can the rest of America sleep at night knowing this is here?"

Meanwhile dunno where you got the "stoning" from. But heck, if somebody jams a camera in my face then I'd consider it an agressive act on their part and feel entirely justified in knocking it out of the way. Quote:
Y'all can whine and whimper about "free speech" all you want - but i godamned guarantee it dont take any talent to pick a fight. And that's exactly what Brit tourists acting like morons accomplished. Kudos to the old lady! She won the match fair and square, calling their bluff and sent em packing. Yet what I'm really wondering about is the motives behind "Top Gear". This scenario played by BBC seems intended to instruct roadtrip travelers to be fearful scared and hateful of "damned redneck filth" like you are, Juck. Now that kinda sucks for a television show (dedicated to automobiles) to breed fear and loathing encouraging hatred, doncha think? Ooooh - aaah, nobody ever oughta get off the interstate...... SCAREY STUFF OUT THERE!! I hate this filmclip for encouraging this crybaby motiffe. |
