is anyone looking for an SLC

there is this 1979 maroon red 450 SLC coupe by my house. Its not in the best of condition, but this dealer has had this car for a long time, maybe even a year and i think they would be really negotiable on the price, the already came down to 1650. heres the link on craigslist
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/car/271746962.html

its in lombard IL

just thought i'd share:D

What!?

that's an AMAZING price?

is there something wrong with it?

stcbenz83 02-02-2007 12:24 PM

i dont think so, i havnt actully looked at it, but its been at this dealership along time. i mean it had rust, but not horribly bad.

450 SLCs are not particularly popular and are hard to sell. They have all the problems of a 450sl (like rust and costs) without the benefit of a removable top.

That price is rather average. I know where there's at least one 500$ parts SLC in NJ.

Euro headlights, so could have manual heat controls and the amazing *manual* sunroof. That price looks staggering low to me. Betcha the Chryzler dealership wants to get rid of it fast because it puts new showroom cars to shame, unless thats a used car lot - then buyer beware. But oughta also tell the folks at the SL forum about this.

And no offense to my pal Charlie, but if you find an SLC not like this metalic brown but in silver on red with sunroof option then it's probly more desirable then most SL's just for the rarity factor plus you get the cool louvre windows and pagoda styled roof. And yeah color combo of these cars makes a huge difference, kinda like the black on red Pontoon bathtub or later Fintail Benz is prized as the best example of its kind.

its probably seen better days, but it looks to be a fun project. i also like the euro's. its pretty cheap, maybe ill check it out... nahh... no time for another project.

let me see if the red 350slc with sunroof, but no motor is still available and I'll post the contact info. -CTH

If I had the cash I'd buy that in a second. Providing it hasn't had a major accident and has minor rust

Euro headlights and euro bumpers - most SL fans would pay a pretty penny for those if in good shape. Here's a car that's got BOTH! And since it has velor interior it's got to be gray-market which means it has the German power of a higher-compression, hotter-tuned engine. About 30 HP more, I'd say.

I like the dial on the dash with the letters. That's a German gizmo for city traffic information. Not useful here at all, but it makes a great conversation piece as you describe it to your friends and change the letter setting for special occasions. -CTH

There is a Euro 500slc in Dallas for $2800. People make a fuss about the 450slc 5.0 .. this has the same engine and a 4 speed auto instead of a 3 speed.

I am thinking about this one to replace my BMW as a winter beater. Any idea of the gas milage one can expect from a 450? Would it be a good replacement?

alabbasi 02-04-2007 04:13 PM

Ken

Expect the low teens. You should call the guy with the 500SLC in TX. It's a southern car and that motor has 240hp. Should be a blast to drive.

All the best

Or wax up the beamer and think about negotiating a drive-in swap with the Chryzler dealership in nearby Chi-town for this SLC - that's what I'd do.

I betcha this 450 is one helluva hot-rod with Euro cut cams high compression engine as Tom says. Ask em if it's got the autobahn 3.60 pumpkin too. Heck, it's gotta have more value/potential than your 528e down the road, just in parts alone if nothing else.

That price of $1,650 is outrageous, never a better opportunity to own one.

Valour

It has the valour interior! I like it... I like it a lot :P

forget what I said Ken, this car does 29 mpg in the city and 50 on the highway. It also holds the road really well in the snow.

Go buy it!
