trans swap up grade in 78 300d

i have a 78 300d with a four speed iron case trans. i just took a four speed out of an 82 240 that is an aluminum case. i also got the shift linkage and rods. will this later trans work in my car? do i have to make any mods or use different clutch assy?

Yes, and if the 240D tranny is later series with bell housing and case as one complete unit then you will need the complete center console shift mechanism all the way up to the shift knob and including the reverse light switch. Then the tranny should bolt right in with driveshaft length being the same. And the clutch slave should be matched to the donor car tranny and not the recipient car obviously. But another question might be speedometer cable compatiability. And regarding clutch pressure plates probly stick with the 300D. Am not sure if 240D/300D plates have the same bolt pattern.
