Footwell Puddle - what is the Source??

I've been trying to locate a passenger side water leak in my 77' 240D for some time now, and I have read most of the threads here on the subject. I had the rusty battery tray replaced, and I've cleaned out the little wells under the hood springs. I think it is the windshield, or possibly the area between the edge of the windshield and the front door/roof gutter.

Anyone with experience here able to tell from looking at my photos what could be the source of the leak? Hosing it down doesn't tell me much... it seems to be worse after the water has had a chance to filter its way down over time. I'd really like to pin this down before spending the dough on a new windshield.

Cheers & TIA,
JB

Have you checked the drain area by the hood hinges? Every 123 I've had was filled with silt and debris.

At that vintage go ahead and replace the rubber windshield gasket seal as matter of course. It's an innexpensive obviously needed repair. The seal will cost you about $50 + $100 labor for installation. The problem is that glass shops dont want to deal with 30 yr old glass brittle with age that might break in the process, but search around and you will find one.

The gasket itself is probably not so much the issue as the rust underneath it. Probably has holes right thru the metal under the gasket if my 116 experience is any guide. Unfortunately you wont know that until you open her up.
