Started on engine removal on the 280C this weekend. Removed the radiator, started on declutching fan. The CD says to remove a bolt in the middle of the hub, but mine has a tab that covers a pin and a bushing that the pin fits into.

Removed the tab, and the pin. There does not seem to be anything else to remove, and the hub will not budge.

Do I need to go after the bolts that hold the pulley on the water pump or is there a trick with the fan hub?

Am also going to post this on the main board since there are a number of 110-heads there.

Not sure, but it sounds like you are trying to remove the thrust pin from the visco coupler. It should be a simple matter of removing the four 10mm bolts that hold the fan to the pully. It has been suggested to use two 10mm box wrenches, one to hold the fan steady and the other to turn the bolts. I have always had good luck just using one wrench and giving a fast yank to loosen the bolt. I get them all started before removing any.

It would have been a simple matter had the last guy not rounded them. I ended up filing the outside of a 10 mm box wrench to fit between the bolt head and the fan shaft to get a better grip. Very slow going.

I wonder how they did that on an assembly line?
