Stickshift 111 3.5 coupe on ebay

For those interested, a (rare) 111 280SE 3.5 coupe with 4 speed manual transmission for sale on ebay. Note it has manual wind-up windows. VERY European (if I say so myself).

There is also a very early 3.5 coupe from California for sale (number 85). It has no AC.

And then there is a fairly rare RHD 3.5 coupe, but on the other side of the world:

the rust looks pretty extensive.

but the car is a rare and desireable model. a closer look might be worthwhile.

the sellers description suggests a non mercedes orientation by the list of what he did to it.

and putting whitewalls on a benz!

hey it is not a caddy!

There were US spec mercedes that came with white walls ex-factory.
I was just reading about one last week or so, but I forget what car and forum that was. -CTH

A lot of '60's Mercedes were factory equipped with whitewalls, particularly those that were America-bound. Also I have never seen a 600 in blackwalls.

Looks like the buyer is a German. As I mentioned before, this type of rust looks "normal" for the average European DIYer/fixer. My guess is that he easily would have bid $20,000 for it and that this car will undergo another (quick) restoration and marketed for Euro 40,000+ in Germany. Somebody told me the other day that there were only 112 of these 3.5 four speed manual coupes ever built, which would make them rarer than convertibles. Can't wait to see my car go beyond $100,000

It's baaack!!!

Folks,

Check out this Ebay link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1970-MERCEDES-280-SE-Coupe-3-5-Liter-Flachkuehler_W0QQitemZ270164429138QQihZ017QQcategoryZ29750QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yes, it is the same car that sold for $16k in Nashvillle, TN. Now it is Euro 44,000. From the description, looks like they repainted it and that's about it (plus some mechanical repairs).

Hang on to those cars folks, they are going back across the Atlantic. Courtesy of a lousy dollar-euro exchange rate.

Common these days because of the conversion rates from USD to Euro. There's currently a massive inflow of Europeans into the US buying up lots of cars on the cheap dollar, then reselling them in Europe. Remember the 80s? The situation was reversed, and we got lots of good European cars on the cheap (I own one!).
