Distributor Alignment Question
I recently acquired a 75 450 SE, but the dizzy was out of it and not aligned properly- anyone have any good tips/suggestions to reinstall it with the correct position? After that, I'm pretty confident she'll fire right up.
Thanks in advance for your help. Nate |

The easy way: Bump your engine, using the starter, to as close to TDC as you can, then rotate it (clockwise) the rest of the way. This will be where the pointer is aligned with the TDC marking on the harmonic balancer (see http://www.peachparts.com/diy/m117timingchain/aftershot.jpg )
After doing this, install the distributor with the rotor aligned exactly on the notch for TDC (see the notch at ~12:30, with the "-4" mark close by, at http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachments/vintage-mercedes-forum/25593d1114212845-4-5-distributor-modifications-dizzy1.jpg ). Then try to start it. If it seems like it tries to start, then time it while cranking. If it doesn't seem to fire at all, then remove the dizzy and replace the rotor at EXACTLY 180° and try again. Aim for TDC while cranking, maybe a little before.
