Bumper swapping?? 220D to 220.4

I've got a 1975 220.4 but don't really like the beefy bumpers. I also have access to bumpers off a 1970 220D which I do like.

Anyone ever attempted swapping the older style bumpers on the newer cars? I know the mounts are different but can it be done with some bracket fabrication?

The late 115 bumpers sit on shock absorbers, the early ones do not have this so that will be one thing you will be faced with figuring out.
I haven't performed this swap before but I have a front bumper off a 114 (coupe) on my '71 220 and its beautiful!

I believe one thing that is also different will be the rubber side pieces that fit the late 115 body, there won't be anything to put in that small hole where they bolt on if you remove them. small deal though compared to the shock issue

Well just bought the whole 220D for $100 so I'll be giving it a shot.

Anyone in need of parts from a 1970 sedan?
