Injector pump match?
Is the injector pump from a 1972 240D the same injector pump that is used on a 1980 240D? Is there any differance in injectors, also? Reason I ask, I have found a wrecked 1972 240D that used to belong to a neighbor of mine, sitting in a local salvage yard. The neighbor said he put new injectors and a new/rebuilt injector pump on the car, and probably didnt have 1000 miles on it when he wrecked it. I thought I might get those from the salvage yard, if I could use them in the future on my 1980 240D?
thanks, Jim

He also had a 1980 240D that his youngest son hit a deer with and totaled it out, plus a 1981 that his older "dumbest" son tried to drive through high water(window level) and sucked water into the intake, transmission, etc. He hauled them all to the salvage yard. Last he knew they all three were there. I'm going by there to get a manual idle cable(he said they were good) probably tomorrow morning. Anything on these cars you guys want me to check out for you? They were all 4 speed manual trannys. The one his son ran in the water may not have many usuable mechanical parts, but the other two should be ok. Let me know in this thread by tomorrow morning, and I'll go take a look.
thanks, Jim

1980 was the transitional year from the 115 chassis to the 123 chassis. To my knowledge the pumps are different, because the 123 uses a centrifugal governor in the pump, and earlier builds used a vacuum controlled governor. Also I believe the shutoff setup was different as well. They also are different between manual and auto trans setups. Pumps usually come around here pretty reasonably on a regular basis, so I wouldn't sweat too hard on rushing to snag a spare unless you have good reason to suspect yours is going out.
As far as the injectors, I do not know if they are the same or not, I would be suspicious though, as the earlier engines had a lower HP rating.

1977 was the first year for the 123 in North America.
The first 240D's were 1974, which were 616.916 engines (pump not compatible). A 1972 would have been a 220D (615 engine).
